Discussion: One Of The House's Least Reliable Democrats May Lose His Primary Tuesday

It’s unfortunate that the economic issue that affects everyone except the top 1% is seemingly not a priority for the Democrats. However as you’ve seen, the pro corporate, pro Wall St elements of the Dem party still rule the roost, so no solutions to our biggest problems.

Ah well, the chances that Dems could fix this were slim to begin with…but hey, maybe January 2021 we’ll get to have one last parade.

She’ll probably campaign a bit differently in the actual election…

You have to give fascists credit. They’re really good at coming up with creative boogiemen.

Ted kennedy running made carter a better dem candidate by making him address dem issues. Reagan would have won either way.

Let’s hop so. He’s a Dem-lite, and like Axelrod said, he’s using Pres. Obama mailers to bail his butt out after he didn’t vote for him to be re-elected. PLEASE

Love to be a fly on the wall:

Also too: Didn’t we get polling numbers on Obama just about weekly in those days? Perhaps not, but seems like it. When was the last time anyone saw a poll on trump’s support that is supposedly shrinking?

I’m feeling more and more mixed about blue dogs & the need to be pragmatic. I usually have been in favor of being pragmatic w/ blue dogs. But lately, am starting to wonder. Just heard someone say ‘we need to elect any D so that we can get power (to do better things than Cheetolini)’. But am now wondering, how many NRA “Dems” - for example = can we afford before ‘getting power’ still equals not doing anything better?

I was very sad to learn Doug Jones voted with Repubs on consumer financial protection repeal. That really stabs the African American women who elected him in the back!

No point ‘getting power’ if we don’t really ‘get power’.

How much has the DCCC spent to help Lipinski?

Thank you!

Now this is some funny shit, right here.

I don’t think there were a great number of black women who thought Jones was going to be good on all the issues we care about. In fact, I would be surprised if this comes as a surprise to most of us. By and large, we don’t expect purity. But where is he going to be on matters involving policing and civil rights? Where will he be on judges who will determine laws that decide whether we’re treated equal or whether our children get sent to lengthy prison terms for minor infractions? We are largely in a life or death situation with this president and this Republican Party. That’s the thing a lot of liberals just don’t understand. This isn’t about the goodies in life. It’s about basic survival. In one hand you have more lax bank regulations, in the other hand you have more lax bank regulations AND the total destruction of hard fought civil rights. Which would you choose? Make no mistake, that’s the choice.

Also, two more Doug Jones will put Democrats back in leadership, stop the flow of judges to federal courts, and keep that asshole in the WH from appointing a SCOTUS justice who’ll send us back even further into the dark ages. Because the truth is that Democrats aren’t going to be able to pass any of the good things we want as long as a Republican president is in power. But they can, however, thwart a lot of the bad shit and maybe even get this animal removed.

Sez the DNC paid troll…

You’re getting smarter. As I mentioned before, the wealthiest 1% took home 82% of wealth created last year. These are 1929 numbers, and gun control or any other issue you get passed means fuck all in a collapsed economy. Imagine what the Great Depression would have been like with 3 times as many people, millions of guns and zero national unity.

Democrats run on social issues because it gets the base in a frenzy to the point that they either don’t pay attention to, or don’t care that, Wall St is driving us further and further into the ground.

?? Since when are they not?? Consumer protection? Minimum wage? College tuition? Collective bargaining? All Dem priorities.

All symptoms. The root cause is the hold of Wall St and Corporate America on our democracy.

Get it right, I’m the fucking CIA.

I do not now have, nor have I ever had, any connection to the DNC, DCCC, DSCC, or any other organized political group; I’m a goddamned Democrat. But if you think Hillary and the DNC, and not Russian misinformation, hacking, and grievance politics are why we have Trump, you’re a complete and utter moron. You’re also likely one of those people who was upset about the mere existence of the TPP, without ever understanding why the hell it was 100% in our interests to go ahead with it, even in light of its flaws.

“I was very sad to learn Doug Jones voted with Repubs on consumer financial protection repeal. That really stabs the African American women who elected him in the back!”

What struck me as the most sad was that the Dems did not get ANYTHING in return for voting with the Republicans on this, and we all know that there isn’t one single Republican that will stop calling them socialists no matter how many times they vote with Repubs - so really, what is the point? I hope the people who have real power are making smart decisions on this, but it would be hard not to lose some confidence in the Democratic powerbrokers after the last few elections.

As a lifetime Arizonan (been here since I could vote, over 50 years), I have a lot of empathy for your feelings. I am sick of voting for people in my own party who are to the right (way right) of me, only to see them lose to complete right wing crackpots. I am at the point now where I will take almost any Democrat because the alternatives are SO MUCH worse. But it is not inspirational to settle for the lesser of 2 evils on every single issue and election.

Sometimes I think our avatars should include whether we are from a red state or a blue state - it certainly has a profound effect on how we look at politics.

As for Lipinski, Plucky is absolutely right. Dems like him who vote to the right of their own constituents should all be kicked out on their collective asses - these are the worst of the blue dogs.

That’s because they weren’t voting because they were ‘getting anything’ for it, the voted for it because fundamentally moderate Democrats serve the interests of Wall St first and foremost, that’s why both parties run on social issues. They agree for the most part on the economy, or at least the idea that Wall St should be in charge of it.

There’s lots of tumult in IL. Some good Dems are coming out to run against the incumbent R governor including a son of RFK, Chris.

Part of why we got PuPPet and not Clinton was voter suppression in a lot of states, and if you had read the Nation at the time of the election you would have read this.
