Why is this not a surprise? The question is, what do they propose to replace democracy with?

“Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…”

I’m right now telling the 17-year-old me not to be too surprised to hear yourself someday telling the other side to love it or leave it.

23 percent of Trump supporters do not prefer a democracy …

… and those are the “moderates.” The other 77 percent actively are trying to destroy it…

This overlaps with the concept of social media siloing. Turns out Fritz Lang and Karl Marx were looking at the world of social strata from a 90-degree tilt. “Calcification of inequality” well captures the effect.

This isn’t a surprise, when you remember the neurological studies that show that conservatives’ have fear-based brains. People who are afraid want someone to tell them what to do. The more afraid they are, and that’s what R’s in general and Faux news in particular specialize in, the more they want certainty.

.23 of .39 of the population… equals less than 10% of the population. They are not legion enough to be banging at the gates in favor of giving Trump a dictatorship.

Now that statement is scarier than the statistic itself.

Presumably, there’s a strong overlap between the anti-democracy respondents and the pro-authoritarian respondents.

From the study: “The highest levels of support for authoritarian leadership come from
those who are disaffected, disengaged from politics, deeply distrustful
of experts, culturally conservative, and have negative views toward
racial minorities.”

A new study from the Democracy Fund’s Voter Study Group found that Americans who back President Donald Trump show the highest level of skepticism for Democracy.

Capital D?

You can have a strong leader in any form of government. There is nothing about having a strong leader than suggests an authoritarian leader. This is truly ridiculous wording for a survey.

They think they prefer something else because Sean Hannity tells them that libards hate democracy. State propaganda is the most insidious danger to our country right now.

And this is the working class group that the NY Times gravitates towards when doing human interest stories because they SUPPOSEDLY represent “real America.” In their book, anyone who voted for the Democrat has nothing of value to say.

I mean, - which would you rather see & hear: an intelligent person address the weaknesses of this county and how they can be turned into strengths OR the circus geek that bites the head of a chicken?

Could it be that 23% of Trump supporters think “democracy” is the same thing as “democrat” and will reflexively vote against it?

These are the exact same people who are demanding to know why President Obama didn’t do more to prevent Hurricane Katrina.

From the study itself:

Those who consume news less frequently are more than 20 points less likely than frequent news consumers to support a “strong leader.” Similarly, nonvoters are about 10 points more likely to express support for a “strong leader.” Cultural conservatives are 20 points more likely than the culturally liberal to support a “strong leader.” Those who say it is fairly or very important for someone to have European heritage to be an American are 30 points more likely to support a “strong leader” than those who decisively reject this racial conception of national identity. Those who are mistrustful of experts are 25 points more likely to support a “strong leader” compared to those who are trusting of experts.

Given how the average American generally consumes their news… that’s a terrifying graf.
